    • Please adhere to the notices when leaving via the plyaground exit.

Leaving after 9:00

  • At 9:00 the playground gates are locked and anyone leaving the building will need to exit via the office.

Collecting children at the end of the day
The

These procedures are in place to ensure the safety of all of the children, their safety is our main concern although sometimes it may cause some inconvenience.

Anyone within the school maybe challenged by members of staff if they are not displaying their pass, please do not be offended we are just looking after the children. All school staff wear school name badges.

School Rules
We have 3 positive school rules:

  • Always be ready to listen
  • Always do your best
  • Always think of others

These rules are for everyone in the school community and are consistently applied across the school.

Celebrations
To celebrate success we use a variety of rewards including stickers and certificates. We have a Gold Book Act of Collective Worship on Friday mornings to which parents of the children receiving Gold Book Certificates are invited.

Healthy Schools
Carisbrooke is a “healthy School”. We encourage children to have healthy life styles by raising awareness about food and exercise. Children are allowed water to drink from named bottles in the classroom, please ensure the water bottles are collected at the end of the day for cleansing and replenishment. We encourage children to have fruit as snack and we do not allow sweets, crisps or chocolate in lunch boxes.

Snacks & Free Fruit
As a healthy school we encourage children to snack on fruit. All children in Reception and Key Stage 1 receive a piece of fruit free each day. This is provided as part of a national programme to get children to ‘Eat 5 a day’. We are now able to extend this for children in Key Stage 2 at a cost of £7 a term, money should be sent in advance at the end the previous term.

School Meals & Dinner Money - Pabulum
The school can offer a hot lunch which is cooked on the premises each day at a cost of £1.80 per day. Our school cook provides a 2 course balanced, healthy meal with a choice for the children. A menu is provided for all children so that meals can be planned. Payment should be sent to the class teacher in a small, named envelope to book a meal.

Packed Lunches
Some children prefer a packed lunch. As a school we ask children to have a healthy lunch box with no chocolate, sweets or fizzy drinks.

All children are encouraged to eat properly at lunchtime. If a child does not eat well you will be sent a note to say that they were encouraged to eat the food they had, but they did not want the food. Children are supervised throughout lunchtime. Children sit together in the hall on mixed group tables. Older children take responsibility to support younger children and adults are always available to help with the food.

School Milk
Children under 5 receive free milk. All other children can buy milk from Coolmilk or drink water that is freely available either from their own water bottles or the school water fountains in each shared area.

Accidents, Illness and Medicines
Any child having an accident in school will be supported by first aid trained staff. Records are kept of all accidents in school and a note will be sent home to outline any action taken. All incidents involving head injuries are reported to parents straight away. Sometimes if we are concerned about an injury we will phone to seek advice from you as parents.

Children that are taking regular medication will be supported by staff in the school to take the medication appropriately. Parents will need to complete a form indicating the name of the medication, the dose and when it should be taken. A record will be kept of all medicines. However the school will not administer medication other than that prescribed as 4 a day by a doctor. Children with allergies and medical conditions will be alerted to all members of staff appropriate staff training will be given and procedures put in place for emergencies.

Children should not return to school until they have recovered completely from any illness or infection. School should be informed of absence on the first day of an illness with a guide to how long the absence is likely to be. A letter on return will be kept for our records.

Emergency contacts
Sometimes we need to contact you quickly. At the beginning of each year an emergency contact form is sent home. Please make sure that it is completed with up to date contact names addresses and numbers and returned to school for our records. If the contacts change over the year please let the school office know so that records can be amended.

Homework, Spellings & Reading Books
Children in key stage 2 will receive homework on a regular basis. These tasks may reinforce or extend classwork. They will also help the children prepare for homework set in middle school. Children are responsible for their own work, but support from home will help.
Spellings to learn and reading books will be sent home from year 1. Reading books are sent home from all classes.

Parental Support
If you have time we would welcome your support in school . We make good use of all of the adults in school to benefit children. Please speak to the class teacher if you can help. During the last year parents have helped with hearing reading, gardening and group support. To keep up with your child’s learning we hold meetings to explain the way we teach. Please watch out for these meetings they are advertised on the school newsletter. To adhere to our Safeguarding policies volunteers will be required to be CRB checked.
